At Welsh Developments, we understand that moving to a new home is exciting, but the development and construction process can be time consuming and difficult to understand. We want to ensure that our community is well-informed of any construction updates that may cause difficulties to travel within and around the estate.
Between Rockbank nursery and 400m west of Paynes Road, a total of 675m of metal barriers delineate a new construction zone adjacent to the estate. The intersection of Paynes Road and Western Freeway is being upgraded from a dirt road to asphalt with acceleration lanes and deceleration lanes entering and exiting the Western Freeway. These works form the first section of upgrade works along Paynes Road. Ultimately the length of Paynes Road from the Western Freeway down to Murray Road will be upgraded to asphalt and the intersection with Murray Road and Paynes Road will also be upgraded.
The impact on users of this road is as follows:
- The speed limit has been reduced to 80 km/hour along this section of the Western Freeway, adjacent to the road works
- Paynes Road from just north of Murray Road intersection to the Western Freeway is closed off
- Detour signage has been put in place to effectively direct traffic around Paynes Road
Stage 1 of these works are currently being carried out by Thornhill Park’s civil site contractor and are anticipated to be completed by mid 2018.
Stage 2 will follow immediately after and is expected to be completed by the end of 2018. The total estimated closure period of Paynes Road is anticipated to be nine months. Detours will be in place, so we encourage you to plan your travel time to avoid potential delays.
These works are being carried out to ensure the safety of new residents of Thornhill Park, as well as the safety of existing residents and commuters surrounding the estate.
These upgrade works form the first round of upgrades for this section of road. The ultimate upgrade of this road and intersection will be completed by Vic Roads in line with the Paynes Road Precinct Structure Plan, which can be viewed here.
